What we do

Three reasons the Scrapstore exists.

Rescuing materials, supporting learning through reuse, and helping people in hardship, since 1988.

Reuse of materials as a way into making, creativity and skills, for people of all ages.

We rescue surplus and offcut materials that would otherwise go to landfill, and sell them on affordably for creative reuse.

Social welfare for people in hardship is one of our two founding charitable objects.

Every material we sell is genuinely useful, sorted with care, and priced to be affordable.

Concession eligibility is self-declared. We never ask for more detail about anyone's circumstances than that.

Schools, nurseries, families, artists, makers and community groups are all welcome as members.

A small paid team and around 50 volunteers, giving roughly 6,600 hours a year, keep the store running.
